- Since 1868 when Fr.Dipho was working in the parish of Myaung Mya, thayetchaung was known as a catholic village and the priest came every year for pastoral touring. During the time of Fr. A. Paschal from 1920 to 1942, Thayetchaung had a great religious influence the neighboring villages. In 1947 Fr. Martin Narbitz became the parish priest of Myaung Mya and Thayetchaung continued to retain its good name in the parish of Myaung Mya. Fr. Narbitz laid foundation of present parish church in 1947 and Fr. Paulinus Eishaung continued the work in 1980. When Fr. Narbitz passed away. The work of the construction was totally completed only in 1985 under the care of Fr. John Saein Hgyi in 1986, the second parish priest of Thayetchaung and the church was solemnly blessed by Bishop John Gabtiel in 1986. Now Fr. Zuzel is its priest. 14 catholic villages 210 catholic families, and catholic population is 1250.
