Pontifical Mission Societies in Myanmar conducted a fifth missionary awareness course on “Transforming Catechesis and Evangelization” at The Sacred Heart of Jesus’ church in Leiktho town in Taung Ngu from August 30 to September 1.

Bishop Issac Danu presided over Mass with the participants at 6 in the morning and started the course after the celebration of the Mass.

At the beginning of the day of the programs, the prelate read out the Message of Pope Francis on World Mission Sunday in 2022, posted on PMS Myanmar Facebook.

Father Lucas Tha Ling Sum of Hakha diocese delivered his presentation on “Transforming Catechesis and Evangelization” for a couple of days, according to the post.

National Director Father Bernardino Ne Ne also shared with the participants PMS Charism and Actualization topic.

Isabella Phyone Phyone Aung, a member of PMS Myanmar, presented animation activities PMS-Myanmar during the Covid-19 pandemic time from 2019 to 2022.

Father Cyril Win Maung, the Director of PMS Pathein, said, “The keywords ‘Faith-based life, Good Christian life, Sacramental life, Moral life, and prayer life that Father Tha Ling Sum imparted are very inspiring to me. It is a meaningful course for me.”

The PMS of the respective Arch/dioceses such as Yangon, Banmaw, Lashio, Taung Ngu, reported their office record of movements and activities.

“I attended many courses conducted by PMS Myanmar before. I noticed the differences between the past and present courses. The difference is that in the previous courses most lecturers were foreigners, and the participants were priests and religious only. Due to language barriers, we received less knowledge,” commented Father Gilbert Sune Sune, the Director of the Diocesan Youth Commission.

He added, “This time many laypeople were seen, and the lecturers are local people. For this reason, we got a lot of knowledge because we understood language very well.”

PMS Myanmar used to conduct courses every year before, but in the previous years, they failed to do so due to health protocol during the Covid pandemic and political unrest in Myanmar, according to Father Win Maung.

The population of participants is one hundred and thirteen including 30 priests, 19 religious, and 64 lay representatives from the respective Arch/dioceses.

The Office of PMS is located inside the compound of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference in Yangon, Myanmar.
