The name of Bishop for Pathein Catholic Diocese in Myanmar announced

The name of Bishop for Pathein Catholic Diocese in Myanmar announced

The announcement of the name of the Bishop of Pathein Catholic diocese in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar was announced by Vatican on May 31.

The Vatican Office has announced that Father Henry Eiklein, who is currently a diocesan administrator, has been selected and appointed as Bishop of Pathein Catholic Diocese.

Priests, women and men religious, and laypeople residing in the City of Pathein gathered in St. Peter's Cathedral and greeted the bishop-elect Fr. Eikhlein.

In his heartfelt speech, the bishop-elect said, "It is a blessing for me as well as a blessing for the Pathein diocese."

Regarding his leadership, he said, "My leadership will be a simple leadership.”

The priests of the Pathein Catholic Diocese also expressed their words of congratulations in the Pathein Clergy Viber Group.

The welcoming ceremony was led by Father Pius Win Than, and was attended by about 100 people including boarding house schoolboys and girls, religious brothers and sisters, and laypeople in the City of Pathein.

Bishop-elect Father Henry Eiklein will become the 7th Bishop of Pathein Catholic Diocese.

Father Henry Eikhlein was born on June 23, 1960 in Painnechaung village of Chanthargone parish in Myaungmya Township, in the Region of Ayeyarwady. His parents are John Mahn Tharzan and Cecilia Kyin Hla.

Among the 5 siblings, Father Eikhlein is the fourth child.

On March 11, 1989, he was ordained as a priest and appointed as an assistant priest of the Pathein Cathedral parish.

From 1989 to 1995, he did further study in France, and was appointed as an assistant priest in the Theyetchaung parish.

From 1996 to 1997, he became a rector of the Sacred Heart of Jesus’ Minor Seminary in Mayanchaung of Pathein.

He served as the secretary for the diocesan synod held in December 1997, and from 1998 to 2003, he was appointed as the spiritual director in the Major Seminary of Yangon.

From 2003 to 2009, he also became a rector of the Major Seminary in Yangon.

From 2009 to 2017, he was appointed as the Director of the Pathein Karuna Social Services in his mother diocese.

From 2018 to 2021, he worked as a Coordinator for all the commissions in the Pathein Catholic diocese.

From 2021 to 2023, he was elected as a diocesan administrator of the Pathein diocese.
